Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) has proven effective as a treatment for a range of presenting problems, especially for those characterized by overwhelming emotions or difficulty managing distress. DBT focuses on four key areas: emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness.

The group sessions will offer step-by-step exercises for learning these concepts and putting them in place for real and lasting change. By participating in a skills-oriented group, members benefit from a structured, positive peer experience geared toward learning and finding solutions to ongoing life stressors. All group members must be in individual therapy (with the therapist of their choice) and must commit to attending and paying for group sessions. A sliding fee scale is available.

For more information or to register, please contact Kimberley Christensen, MSW, GSW.

Parents of Troubled Adults

Parents of Troubled Adults is a monthly support group that offers help and hope to parents whose adult children are suffering from depression, mentall illness, alcohol/drug abuse and other difficulties. Participants share and learn from one another.

Each month a different topic is addressed by experts in the field. It is free to join, but registration is requested.

For more information or to register, please contact Toby Bonnett, LCSW.

Girl Power

Girl Power is an eight-week group for girls aged eight to twelve that helps foster positive feelings of self-worth. There is also a Teen Girl Power group for girls ages thirteen to fifteen. While doing fun-filled activities such as making collages, painting t-shirts and playing team-building games, girls discuss issues of friendship, peer pressure, family relationships, school issues and goals for the future.

For more information or to register, please contact Sharon Kirkpatrick, CPA, MSW, GSW.

Techniques of Expressive and Reflective Writing

Techniques of Expressive and Reflective Writing is a group for adults. It is based on research that shows a correlation between written expression of factual and emotional reactions to stress and increased physiological and psychological well-being. No previous writing experience is required – nor does one need a particular talent. There will be opportunity to experience open-ended, focused and guided writing exercises.

For more information or to register, please contact Christina Roux, MSW, GSW.
