Homemaker

The JFS Homemaker program is an in-home assistance for disabled or older adults. Since 1975, JFS homemakers have been helping people with tasks of daily living, and ensuring both safety and independence of individuals in their home. It is especially innovative in the New Orleans area because JFS offers the only home-care assistance program that includes a transportation component.

The homemaker staff is sensitive to each client’s needs. Continuous supervision and ongoing training assures the quality of this program. Our seniors continue to struggle with the need to get to places such as doctors’ appointments, shopping, the pharmacy and the post office. Homemakers provide this assistance.

Homemakers visit clients either once a week or twice a month for a period of 3.5 hours. Visits are set for a regular time each week. Services provided include:

  • Light housekeeping
  • Transportation
  • Laundry
  • Shopping
  • Meal preparation
  • Errands
  • Personal care

The cost is on a sliding fee scale based on income, and ranges from $8 to $36 per visit. There are no age restrictions on this service.
